Lichen is a dish we’ve been serving for a really long time. It’s called lace lichen; we serve it kind of like a dry glass noodle. People absolutely love it or it’s just not for them. Welcome to Harbor Recovery Center’s Transitional Living (TL) program, designed for individuals seeking continued support and treatment following residential care. TL offers a supportive environment where clients can extend their recovery journey for up to 18 months. We also offer Transitional Living (TL) housing services, on campus as well as in downtown Hot Springs, for those who complete residential care and wish to continue their treatment. TL offers a structured, supportive sober-living environment combined with outpatient treatment services to help ensure lasting success. Participants can stay in TL up to 18 months.

A residential modality offers the client a structured, safe environment designed to treat the whole person, including any co-occurring disorders such as depression, anxiety, and personality disorders. The hidden gem actually is this new thing that we started called the hybrid pairing. You still get eight beverages, but four are wine or sake, then four are non-alcoholic. We’ve seen a big push to NA drinkers, and we have plenty of guests that still want to taste the wine, but they’re unsure. So we made a hybrid pairing and that’s been going over really well. We recently caught up with Kammerer to talk about everything from seaweed Chardonnay to an abalone club sandwich he once served at the restaurant.

Additionally, we offer Specialized Women’s Services (SWS), a day program for expecting mothers and mothers of small children. This modality involves all the elements of the traditional residential program, but with a greater emphasis on parenting skills, connecting with community resources, and household management. Our treatment team consists of dedicated, motivated individuals working together to provide evidence-based care targeted to the unique needs of persons served. Our model is centered in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, or ACT– a mindfulness- and acceptance-based behavioral therapy that capitalizes on the person’s core values to create life-saving change. We also utilize Living in Balance in our group education curriculum.

Star chef Matthew Kammerer, an alum of fine-dining hotspots like Saison, renovated and reopened this former historic lumber house in Elk in 2018, and it’s had a meteoric rise since. I’m not really too wrapped up in the awards, to be honest. The benefit of them is this restaurant is remote, it could be seen as a risk to pick up your life and move here. All of those awards keep giving us a little bit more credibility in the industry. What excites me about getting them is we’re able to recruit new team members and get new ideas. Adrienne started in the restaurant as a captain, and about a year and a half ago, she switched over to the hotel and concierge, but she’s also our lead events member.

Throughout their stay in TL, clients engage in ongoing treatment. This includes regular group sessions, individual counseling sessions, and coaching sessions with our dedicated team. We believe in the importance of continued support and accountability as individuals navigate the challenges of early recovery. Visitors also angle for a chance to stay in one of 11 guestrooms or cottages at the property with equally stunning views.
